Overview

The most important thing to consider when determining if a candidate's location matches a job's location is that the City/State and Country attributes are 1:1 mapping. If the candidate's profile and the job role have matching cities and states, the profile will appear in results.

The location radius (e.g., 100 miles between candidate location and job location) is not applicable if it crosses national borders. A job posted with a San Diego location with a 100-mile radius will NOT surface candidates from Mexico. Similarly, if a search location is a US city on border of US and Canada, candidates from Canada wont show up.

Note:

Findem measures the distance from the perimeter of the target location and not the center. If you want to match the exact location, put 0 as the radius.

Findem uses a combination of thresholds, overlap controls, and specific parameters to determine which locations are shown based on your query.

Here's how it works:

Overlap Mechanisms (Thresholds)

Location searches use different thresholds for overlap, meaning how much of a location must match for it to appear in the search results.

• Geo Intersection Threshold: This is set at 45% by default and ensures that locations with at least 45% overlap are considered a match. A candidate's profile location must have at least a 45% overlap ratio with respect to the search location, meaning if the candidate's profile has the location listed as 'United States' and the job search location is 'California,' then the profile location overlap ratio = california_area /united_states_area, which is less than 45%, so this profile won't show up in the results.

• Multi-State Area Intersection Threshold: For locations that span across multiple states, the threshold is set to 55%, which is a bit higher to account for broader regions. To add, a candidate's state (if within US) and country must match with the job state and country, except when its a multi-state area like Greater Chicago Area, etc. Then Findem will parse out states like Illinois, Michigan, Indiana and Wisconsin.

• Metropolitan Area Intersection Threshold: For cities and metropolitan areas, the threshold is set at 40%. This helps narrow the results to urban locations. Cities and regions are treated as areas with a border. They can overlap partially with the set radius and be considered in range - yet someone on the farthest reach of the area's border can appear to be out of range, but is included because the city as a whole was deemed in range.

  For example, let's say 51% of the area of Chino is within 60 miles of Gardena. We consider all candidates in Chino to be "within range" for location (Match = true). However, with a resume, we might see the exact addresses are on the far side of Chino and exceed the 60-mile radius.

Remote Job Locations

When setting up job locations for remote positions, it's important to be specific about the geographical scope. Clearly define whether the remote work is:

• Limited to a specific country (e.g., remote workers within Kazakhstan borders)
• Open to global candidates
• Has other specific geographical restrictions

This specificity ensures that the right candidates are matched with your remote positions based on the actual geographical requirements.

Global Search Policies for Location Filtering

Findem allows you to configure global search policies to filter candidates by location. These policies let you set default geographic restrictions for all searches, providing more control over your candidate pool.

• You can limit results to specific countries while excluding certain states or regions
• For example, you can create a policy to search within the United States while specifically excluding candidates from New York and California

This feature is particularly useful for organizations with specific geographic hiring restrictions or preferences.

Location 'IS NOT' Filter Behavior

When using the 'IS NOT' location filter in Findem, please note that it does not refine results in real-time as selections are being made. The filter will update only after all selections have been completed. This behavior is known to the Product team, who are considering improvements to this functionality in future updates.

Region Values in Job Posting System

When working with job locations in Findem's job posting system, the Region field is pulled from your ATS (Applicant Tracking System) and transmitted in JSON format through the Job Postings API. The system uses only predefined region values: AMER, APAC, EMEA, and India.

Time Zone Selection

When searching for candidates across different time zones, you can select time zones by typing the desired timezone (such as Pacific, Central, PST, or CST) directly into the timezone field. The platform provides recommended timezones based on your current search filters, but you can manually type and select any timezone you need, even if it's not initially displayed in the recommendations.

Why Candidates Might Not Appear in Search Results

There are several reasons why a candidate visible on LinkedIn might not appear in Findem search results:

• The LinkedIn profile might not be public, meaning Findem may have an older, outdated version of the profile
• The candidate's current work experience might have an end date, causing Findem to not recognize it as a current role
• There might be discrepancies in title or location matching between the current profile and Findem's stored information
• For internal employees, verify your organizational settings and ensure the correct company domain is added

If you notice location filters not working correctly in Findem Inbound:

1. Double-check your filter settings.
2. Verify the total number of candidates before and after applying the filter.
3. Contact Findem Support with specific details about the issue, including the project link.

If candidates are missing when using job filters in Findem search:

1. Check for any potential syncing delays.
2. Verify that the job filter is correctly applied.
3. Ensure the job is not closed or archived.
4. Contact Findem Support if the issue persists, as they may need to investigate sync or filter-related problems.

Overlap Control Flags

These flags help fine-tune the search results by preventing certain locations from being included.

• Disallow Country Overlap: This prevents locations in different countries from being shown in your search results. For example, searching for "New York, USA" won't show results from "Toronto, Canada."

• Disallow State Overlap: This prevents results from different states within the same country. For example, searching for "New York, USA" will exclude "New Jersey, USA."

Location Circle Parameter

• Allow Country Overlap: This is a setting that can be adjusted for specific location searches. If you want to include locations from different countries, we can set this option to "True," overriding the default restriction.
