How Insights Reports Count and Sample Candidates
This article explains how candidate counts are calculated in Insights Reports, how filtered-out candidates are treated, and how sampling works when the overall talent pool is very large.
How Insights Reports Define the Talent Pool
The Insights Report continues to work on the overall talent pool available for a given search criteria. It uses the same search criteria that produce your matches, but the report operates on the total pool of candidates that meet those criteria, not only on the candidates currently visible in filtered views.
Effect of Removing or Filtering Candidates
Removing candidates from search results does not automatically change the pool that the Insights Report pulls from. The Insights Report still includes previously filtered out matches when calculating statistics, because it continues to work on the overall talent pool available for the given search criteria. To change what the Insights Report is based on, users should modify their search criteria directly.
Which Candidates Are Counted in Insights Reports
The Insights Report count includes multiple candidate categories. It calculates the total candidate count by adding different candidate categories, including:
- External Channel candidates
- Filtered Out Matches
- Potentially other candidate statuses
This means the Insights Report adds up candidates from different sources and statuses. Because it includes external candidates, filtered out matches, and potentially other candidate categories, the total count in the Insights Report is more comprehensive and can be higher than counts shown in filtered search results.
Why Header Counts Can Differ From In-Tab Counts
Per current design, the tab header shows a total that includes all candidates, including those labeled as “Filtered Out Matches”, when you are not explicitly inside that channel. When you click into the channel or tab, the displayed list and the count reflect the candidates for that specific channel. This in-tab count can be lower than the header total because it excludes filtered-out matches.
Sampling When the Talent Pool Exceeds 10,000 Candidates
When the overall talent pool exceeds 10,000 candidates, the Insights Report displays statistics based on a sample of the first 10,000 candidates. This means charts and statistics are calculated from that sample rather than from the entire population when the pool is larger than 10,000 candidates.
A disclaimer or note is always provided in sections where data sampling is applied to ensure transparency. Wherever sampling is in effect, you will see an indication on the report section that the data is based on a sample of up to the first 10,000 candidates.
